Outreach Programs

As part of the League's commitment to employment services, the Center for Workforce Development Services (CWDS) has developed outreach programs designed to address specific needs or areas that impact our client's ability to reach self-sufficiency. Often, the individuals participating in this program need extensive employment and training services as well as one-on-one assistance dealing with other barriers preventing successful employment.

These programs include:


Urban Youth Empowerment Program
The League is NOW recruiting for the Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP), a comprehensive, workforce development initiative designed to reconnect "high-risk", out-of-school and adjudicated 18-21 year old youth with education and/or employment placement.

The Louisville Urban League has been selected to serve 60 "high risk", out-of-school and adjudicated 18-21 year old youth, of which 50% have to be youth ex-offenders, for the period October 1, 2006 – May 31, 2006. The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • 18-21 years of age
  • High school drop-out, and/or;
  • Adjudicated /ex-offender (non-violent crime), and/or;
  • "High-risk", such as:
    • Single parent
    • Homeless
    • Identified disability
    • Limited work history (worked no more than 3 consecutive months in the past 12 months of the calendar year)
    • Unemployed
  • Must have a minimum 7th grade reading level and a 6th grade math level (determined through assessment)
