URBAN LEAGUE ANNOUNCES RECEIPIENTS OF ITS HIGHEST HONOR |

--Award given to two high profile advocates for diversity and inclusion—
Louisville, KY – The Louisville Urban League is bestowing its highest honor, the Arthur M. Walters “Champion of Diversity Award,” to two recipients at its annual Diversity Soirée & Awards Gala on Saturday, May 21. Receiving the award are Jim Host and the late Reverend Louis Coleman. The black-tie optional event, presented by Fifth Third Bank, begins at 6:00 PM and will be held in the Louisville Marriott Downtown Ballroom. Horseshoe Southern Indiana is a supporting sponsor of the evening.
Each honoree exemplifies the award’s high standards for selection, but in uniquely different ways. Jim Host has a long and distinguished history of public service in Kentucky and most recently for his work as Chairman of the Louisville Arena Authority. His attention and dedication to the hiring of local minorities and women in all phases of the arena project allowed it to meet and surpass its goals and set an example for future projects.

17th Annual Career Expo Expected To Draw Record Attendance
Louisville, KY – Employers and job seekers have the opportunity to connect at the Louisville Urban League’s 17th annual “Louisville Career Expo.” The event is expected to attract nearly 3,200-plus job seekers and will have over 75 exhibitors, is scheduled on Wednesday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Kentucky International Convention Center.
Traditionally one of the largest events of its kind, admission to the Louisville Career Expo is free to the public and targets adults who are 18 years of age or older. The event offers companies and employers the opportunity to: 1) meet face-to-face with large numbers of qualified job applicants; 2) diversify their workforce; and 3) build relationships to further promote their company’s objectives and mission.

Urban League Brings Project Ready to Meyzeek Middle School |

URBAN LEAGUE PARTNERSHIP ESTABLISHES COLLEGE PREP PROGRAM AT INNER CITY SCHOOL

The Louisville Urban League and Meyzeek Middle School have partnered together to offer an out-of-school time program for students and youth living in Louisville’s Smoketown and Shelby Park neighborhoods. Project Ready, a program of the Louisville Urban League’s Youth Development and Education Department, is a middle/high school to college transition program whose mission is to engage students in individual goal planning, academic enrichment, cultural development and career exploration experiences. The Project Ready/Meyzeek Middle School partnership is made possible by a generous lead grant of $50,000 from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation. Additional funding has been provided by Making Connections Network.

Urban League report shows workforce development program off to strong start with KFC Yum! Center |

New inclusion standard set for construction projects
LOUISVILLE – It started with the KFC Yum! Center, but an innovative program to put minorities and women to work on local construction projects has a future well beyond the new arena, according to a report released today.
The Louisville Urban League and a multitude of partners released the report showing that the KentuckianaWorks Construction Pipeline project has accomplished the following:
- Trained 293 candidates for work in construction
- Placed 111 of them into employment, including 95 minorities and 12 women
- Placed 35 graduates directly into construction jobs on the arena
- Helped the new arena construction project achieve or surpass its goals of 20 percent employment going to minorities, 5 percent to women and 60 percent to local workers

“Green Advantage® Training and Certification” offered by Urban League |

- Open to members of the construction trades - contractors & field personnel -
Louisville, KY – Members of the construction trades now have the opportunity to gain a green certification through the “Green Advantage Training and Certification” program now offered by the Louisville Urban League’s (LUL) Center for Workforce Development in partnership with the Kentucky U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The Kentucky USGBC has developed the two-day training to help contractors, field personnel, construction workers, and others understand their role in residential and commercial green building projects.
“Green” practices and principals play a key role in today’s construction industry. It’s important we use this technology to better adapt and preserve our environment for future generations,” said LUL President & CEO, Ben Richmond.
