LOUISVILLE COUPLE--ALICE AND WADE HOUSTON--TO RECEIVE “DIVERSITY AWARD”
- Event Also To Salute Culture of Area Hispanic/Latino Community -
Louisville, KY - Louisville entrepreneurs and humanitarian couple Alice and Wade Houston have been selected to receive the prestigious Arthur M. Walters Champion of Diversity Award at the Louisville Urban League’s fourth annual gala scheduled Saturday, May 17. The black-tie optional event--sponsored by Fifth Third Bank and Caesars Indiana--will be held in the Galt House Hotel’s East Ballroom.
The award, named for Walters who served as the League’s Executive Director for 17 years, recognizes outstanding achievement by an individual, business or organization in the promotion of diversity within the Louisville community.
The gala’s theme this year is “Diversity Soirée Olé,” a salute to Louisville’s growing Hispanic/Latino community. The acknowledgement also represents a step by the Louisville Urban League to expand its minority-focused programs to include Louisville’s Hispanic/Latino population. “We are extremely honored that the Urban League would choose to highlight the Hispanic culture during its annual prestigious Diversity Soirée,” said Adam Ruiz, Chair of the Hispanic Latino Business Council affiliated with Greater Louisville Inc. “We look forward to many other opportunities to come together to celebrate diversity that exists in these wonderful communities,” added Ruiz, who is also Chief of Staff of Citizen Union Bank. In addition to Ruiz, other original members of the Hispanic/Latino Business Council’s Executive Committee will attend the gala. They are: Marilyn Cordova-Winchell, Ben Ruiz, Francisco Abril, and Carlos Hernandez. “The Diversity Soirée is perhaps Louisville’s biggest post-Derby event,” said Ben Richmond, Louisville Urban League President and CEO. “More importantly, it shines the spotlight on the individual contributions made by various cultures that meld together to make Louisville great.”
The Soirée, which also serves as a fundraiser for the League, will feature performances by: Acoiris Latino (Mexican Dance), The Dick Sisto Trio, FlamencoTalk (Spanish Flamenco), Salsa Rhythms Band, Unlimited (Rhythm & Blues Band).
Tickets are $200 each or $2,000 for a table of 10, with $150 of each ticket tax deductible. To purchase tickets or for more information, call (502) 566-3415. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.lul.org. |
