Louisville, KY - At a time when urban youth are publicly associated with gangs, drugs and other destructive behaviors, the Louisville Urban League is celebrating youth accomplishment at its 2010 “Doing the Right Thing” Youth Expo on Saturday, September 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Fourth Street Live! in downtown
The youth-focused event will include a talent show, oratorical contest and special awards recognition throughout the day. Anticipated to draw over a thousand youth and adults, the event will also feature guest speakers, special performers and organizations providing services for youth.
“Urban youth are excelling in our community,” said Ben Richmond, President and CEO of the Louisville Urban League. “This event showcases that achievement in a very big way.”
The annual expo meets a special need, according to Christopher 2X, a local activist and past recipient of the event’s Adult Recognition Award. The event helps to re-enforce positive behavior among urban youth and offers them encouragement, he said.

---------------- About the “Doing the Right Thing” Youth Expo Building on the efforts started initially by the National Urban League, the Louisville Urban League has led a local movement begun in 1995 to highlight and recognize local youth for their positive achievements, leadership abilities and special talents. This year’s youth expo will include over 50 booths and exhibits of local organizations focused on helping youth develop, succeed and stay out of trouble. The event also includes essay and oratorical competitions, recognitions of achievement and live entertainment.
