What is Leading II Reading?
The Louisville Urban League’s “Leading II Reading” is a state-approved No Child Left Behind, Supplemental Educational Services (SES) program. Leading II Reading is designed to help public school students to read at the appropriate grade level and is affiliated with Urban League’s Joseph H. McMillan Reading Information Center.
What are Supplemental Educational Services? SES is authorized by the No Child Left Behind Act to provide high quality, researched-based tutoring services at no cost to eligible families. The services are designed to increase academic achievement in reading/language arts and mathematics.
Who is eligible to receive SES? Families with children attending Jefferson County Public School District’s “Title I” schools and who are receiving free or reduced lunch are eligible for services. Priority is given to students who score at novice level in reading according to school-based standardized testing.
How can parents select a SES provider and enroll their children? During the month of September, Jefferson County Public Schools will notify eligible families of services provided by the League and other venues. Enroll your child in Leading II Reading during the JCPS enrollment period.
