Green Advantage® Training and Certification

Training Objectives

Ø Become familiar with the Green Advantage® certification process.

Ø Gain a basic understanding of sustainability and green building.

Ø Understand the concepts and learn best practices associated with site and land use in the building process.

Ø Understand the importance of water quality and conservation both inside and outside the building.

Ø Understand the energy and atmospheric impacts of buildings and building products, and how to contribute to energy performance in the planning and construction process.

Ø Become familiar with the environmental and human health impacts of materials that are used throughout the building life cycle.

Ø Understand how green building construction, maintenance, and renovation can result in improved indoor environmental quality.

Ø Understand the concept of innovation in design, and learn best practices in integrated strategies.

Ø Gaining the knowledge necessary to successfully pass the Green Advantage® Exam.

 

Training consists of two eight-hour days of instruction facilitated by Certified instructors and is designed to help participants pass the 90-minute Green Advantage® Exam. Green Advantage® Certification is obtained by scoring a 75% or greater score on a 60 question, multiple choice, open-book exam.

 

Eight (8) AIA/CES Sustainable Design/HSW Learning Units are available for passing the exam at the advanced level of 80% or higher. 

 

The exam covers the rationale for and basic understanding of sustainability and green building and best management practices related to site and land use, water, energy and atmosphere, materials, and indoor environmental quality.

The Louisville Urban League's Center for Workforce Development, in partnership with the Kentucky U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), offers Green Advantage Training and Certification program for members of the construction trades. This two-day training is for commercial or residential general contractors, construction project managers, subcontractors, foremen, laborers, material suppliers, who are interested in learning more about sustainable design and construction practice to increase their job skills or market their business.

 

   I. Training Classes are only $100

 II. 14 Building Contractor CEU Credits!

             (Louisville Metro Department of Codes and Regulations, Approved)

 

III. Green Advantage® Exam $175

 

2 Days of Training

Taught on 2 consecutive Saturdays

9 AM - 5 PM each day

Certification Testing on the following Saturday

9:30 AM - 11:00 AM
